Ayurvedic Health Tips

Discovering Ayurvedic health tips unveils a treasure trove of ancient wisdom aimed at nurturing holistic well-being. These time-honored practices encompass dietary guidance, herbal remedies, mindful living habits, and personalized routines that harmonize the body, mind, and spirit to promote overall health and vitality

Ayurveda’s Approach to Dosha Balance for Health and Vitality

Ayurveda is one of the oldest medical systems in the world that originates from India and has been around for 5,000 years.

Rooted in the belief that good health comes from balance between the mind, body, and spirit,  the ayurvedic tradition predicts that illness, discomfort, and health problems are related to dosha imbalance. To ensure balance in your dosha, Ayurveda suggests modifying your lifestyle, diet, consuming herbs, and practicing cleansing.

Here are 5 ayurvedic tips that you can practice in your life to improve your body health and skin beauty

 Do a detox

There are two daily ayurvedic detox rituals that you can try, namely drinking a glass of warm lemon water in the morning when your stomach is still empty and doing oil pulling. Oil pulling itself is an ayurvedic procedure that involves cleaning the mouth by gargling with pure coconut oil or sesame oil.

Useful for removing toxins from the body, eliminating bad breath, and whitening teeth naturally, do an oil pulling detox ritual by gargling for about 20 minutes using 10 ml of coconut oil or sesame oil. After you’ve finished gargling, make sure you rinse your mouth well with warm water.

Create quality sleep

Ayurveda highly recommends that you go to bed at exactly 10 pm and wake up at sunrise. If you struggle to sleep on time, try drinking a cup of hot milk mixed with honey, turmeric and pistachio powder before bed. But if milk consumption isn’t possible, consider using chamomile tea as an alternative to aid in achieving better sleep. To make your sleep easier, don’t forget to massage the soles of your feet with sesame oil.

Go on a proper diet

In ayurveda, diet and exercise are essential to cultivating balance. The healthiest diet that you can adopt is a diet that suits your main dosha.

Quoting Yogapedi a, dosha refers to the body’s humors or bio-energy centers in Ayurvedic medicine. Dosha is divided into vata, pitta and kapha which are believed to circulate in the body and regulate physical, mental and emotional characteristics.

Apart from aligning your diet with your dosha, you can also try other diets. For for example by consuming roasted fennel mixed with coriander seeds and a little salt. This dish is useful for improving digestion and metabolism. Or, drink boiled barley water and coriander tea to help reduce weight and relieve bloating.

Apply topical ayurvedic treatments

Apart from doing ayurvedic treatments from within, you should also try topical ayurvedic treatments using aloe vera or turmeric oil. If you want instant glowing skin, you can try a face mask made from a mixture of sandalwood powder, grated almonds that have been soaked overnight, and honey.

To help treat acne, try a face mask made from fuller’s earth, honey, and turmeric. If you have problems with blemishes, rub your skin with a mixture of tea tree oil, clove oil, and lemon essential oil which has been diluted with grape seed oil.

Massage and herbal bath

Massages and herbal baths will keep the skin in top condition when the nerves relax. You can add 10-12 drops of your favorite essential oil to your bath to make your bathing ritual more relaxing. Or, use fresh herbs that have been wrapped in a muslin bag.

During the bathing ritual, massage your body using the right oil. To make your skin more radiant, massage from the bottom towards the heart to help increase circulation.

 Conclusion:

Ayurveda, an ancient system, focuses on balancing the mind, body, and spirit for overall well-being. It emphasizes dosha balance to ease ailments and sustain vitality. Integrating Ayurvedic health tips like detox rituals, good sleep, tailored diets, topical treatments, and herbal baths promotes a healthier lifestyle and glowing skin. Passed down through generations, these practices boost physical health and inner harmony. They offer a holistic path to wellness and beauty, aligning with life’s natural rhythms.

What is Dental Floss? A Simple Guide

Published

on

dental floss

Dental floss is a string-shaped tool that is used to clean dirt or food residue between the teeth. This tool can reach areas of the teeth that are not touched by brushes or mouthwash.

Meanwhile, the technique of cleaning teeth using thread is called flossing. This method can overcome dental problems, one of which is plaque. Plaque which comes from the accumulation of food waste is the cause of cavities and gingivitis.

Using dental floss can reach the entire surface of the teeth optimally. The method is to take a 45 centimeter piece of thread, then place it between the teeth and move it up and down.

Preparation Before Flossing

First of all, you need to prepare dental floss. The thread used is specifically for teeth and is different from ordinary sewing thread. This tool can be purchased at a pharmacy or supermarket.

Threads come in different shapes and prices. You can choose what suits your needs. Some types include:

  • Unwaxed dental floss is a thin nylon floss made of approximately 35 braided fibers. It even reaches the narrow spaces between crowded teeth, but it can be brittle and fray easily.
  • Waxed dental floss is standard nylon floss covered with a light, waxed coating. It is more resistant to cracking, but the waxed coating may make it difficult to reach narrow interdental spaces.
  • Dental tape is wider and flatter than standard floss – it can be waxed or unwaxed. People with larger spaces between their teeth often prefer to use dental tape instead of standard floss.
  • Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) thread is made of the same material as modern Gore-Tex fabrics. The material glides easily between teeth and is resistant to fraying compared to standard dental floss.
  • Threads from the Super floss collection are made of a material resembling cotton thread and have stiffened tips – they can be used when wearing orthodontic braces or a prosthetic bridge.

The Right Way to Floss Your Teeth

Using dental floss cannot be done carelessly. Because the wrong method can cause damage to the teeth and gums. To prevent this, this is the right way to do the flossing technique:

  • Prepare dental floss and cut it to a length of 45 centimeters. Then, wrap the thread around the middle fingers of both hands.
  • After wrapping it around your middle finger, hold the thread tightly with your index finger and thumb. Leave 2 to 5 centimeters for flossing teeth.
  • Insert dental floss between the teeth. Do this in front of a mirror so that the thread goes right between the teeth.
  • Move the thread up and down slowly. Don’t move the thread too hard, because it can hurt and bleed the gums.
  • When it almost touches the bottom of the tooth close to the gum, circle the floss around the adjacent tooth to form the letter ‘C’. Gently swipe the thread in an up and down motion. Use this method to clean under the other teeth.

When finished, gargle with water to rinse and clean your teeth. It is not recommended to use thread that was previously used. Because using used thread can trigger the growth of bacteria.

Before flossing, you should brush your teeth first to reduce food residue that is still stuck. As explained at the beginning, dental floss is used to clean between teeth that cannot be reached by a toothbrush.

So, brushing your teeth is still the main step in maintaining dental hygiene. Do this at least twice a day. If you experience problems with your teeth and mouth, please make a medical appointment for an examination.

How to clean your teeth with dental floss?

Correct use of dental floss should be carried out according to the following points:

  • First, wash your hands. This will avoid the transfer of bacteria to the oral cavity.
  • Cut the thread to a length of approx. 40-50 cm.
  • We thread the dental floss onto the middle or index fingers of both hands, holding it with our thumbs. We leave a small piece on one finger (to thread the used thread later) and the remaining part on the other (from where we will unwind a new section of thread).
  • We leave about 4 cm of taut thread.
  • Insert the wound and taut floss into the interdental space until the first resistance is felt. We then gently clean the area under the gum. It is extremely important to guide the floss next to the tooth and move it from top to bottom, not from right to left. At all times, remember to keep the floss taut and guided against the tooth.
  • We thread the used part onto the finger where we left a small piece of thread. From the second finger, we unwind a new section to the next area between the teeth.

Proper flossing should take about 3 minutes. Then we rinse our mouth with water. An alternative to dental floss are interdental brushes, but they are used more for cleaning wider spaces between teeth. However, the choice of such a toothbrush is made by the dentist, because it must be individually tailored to our needs.

Why should you use dental floss?

First of all, to avoid oral diseases such as tooth decay or, more dangerously, periodontitis, which in the final stage causes tooth loss. Food remains and plaque accumulate between the teeth, which can only be removed with dental floss. You can easily tell whether someone is flossing their teeth or not. Then, you can see that discoloration and cavities form near the gaps in the teeth, while tartar accumulates in the spaces between the teeth. You may also observe redness of the gums.

Who can use dental floss?

Only children under 10 years of age cannot use commonly available dental floss. Apart from this exception, it is recommended that all adults floss their teeth because, as already mentioned, it prevents many oral diseases. When someone, for various reasons, cannot clean their teeth with two hands (e.g. due to a disability), they can use special floss holders. This makes it possible to floss with one hand. There are also dental picks on the market that also clean the interdental spaces.

Why is it worth using dental floss?

Using dental floss will help you avoid many oral diseases, such as caries and periodontal disease. Some of the plaque and food remains accumulating between the teeth can only be removed with dental floss. When we do not floss our teeth, discoloration and, over time, even cavities form in the spaces between them.

What is Celtic Sea Salt?

Published

on

Celtic sea salt

The Celtic salt, also known as Celtic sea salt, comes from France. To be precise, it comes from the Brittany region of France. There are different types of sea salt, including Celtic sea salt. One of them is Sel gris, which means gray salt. It is the rougher version of the two. The other is white table salt, also called fleur de sel, which means flour of salt. Both forms are rich in minerals and also contain many traces. This gives Celtic sea salt its distinctive taste. In addition to salt, it is also sweet and bitter. Celtic salt is low in sodium chloride. This makes it a deliciously soft salt that feels very friendly in the mouth.

Why is this salt called Celtic sea salt?

The Celtic Empire was very extensive. It was an extraordinarily large area, even at the beginning of England. Even in Scotland and also in Ireland and Wales the language can still be traced back to Gaulish. In many supermarkets, even Edeka, you can find Edeka Celtic salt. And that’s why there is also Celtic sea salt or Celtic sea salt in German. In the Netherlands and Belgium, Celtic sea salt is still widely imported.

How is Celtic sea salt obtained?

How is salt normally extracted? You let seawater flow into a basin and then close it. The sun causes the water to evaporate and then salt is left behind. The power of the sun! The salt is then collected. The main thing is to get as much salt as possible. People are less interested in quality. How did the Celts do it? The Celts created salt marshes. They cleverly let in the sea water and channeled it into a shallow basin. This process takes about one to two weeks. The salt water is then dried in the last basin and drawn by hand. People still do it today as they did around 2,000 years ago. And that is of course admirable. The quality is also thanks to this excellent process.

Why is extracting salt this way so special?

The flat salt marshes have a type of clay that is not common. The Celts seem to have already known this. They already knew that the clay had a cleansing effect on the salt water. In addition, the sea water back then was much cleaner than it is today with all its pollution. The Celtic cleaning process still works excellently today.
