Singer’s Warsaw Festival of Jewish Culture

(Nov. 17-19) — Singer’s Warsaw Festival of Jewish Culture returns for its second year. The Singer smorgasboard includes a cantorial show featuring Yaakov Lemmer and Frank London performing Gershon Sirota and Mordechai Gebirtig. There’s a production of Itzik Manger’s play “Humesh Lider” by the Jewish Theater in Warsaw, as well as screenings of “Yentl” and “Enemies, a Love Story,” films adapted from Singer’s stories. There’ll be Singer Storytime readings at libraries around town. The festival concludes with a production of “A Wall,” a play based on the story of Holocaust hero Irena Sendler. — The Jewish Week

November 17: 
4:00 p.m. — CONCERT: cantor Yaakov Lemmer & trumpeter Frank London in Concert, featuring Anthony Coleman (piano), Matt Darriau (winds), Joanna Sternberg (bass) & Richie Barshay (drums).
6:00 p.m. — "Humesh Lider," a play written and directed by Andrei Munteanu. Based on the book by Itzik Manger, original music by Dov Seltzer. Performed by the Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska Jewish Theatre in Yiddish, with English subtitles. Starring: Monika Chrząstowska, Ewa Dąbrowska, Małgorzata Majewska, Ewa Tucholska, Ernestyna Winnicka, Piotr Chomik, Henryk Rajfer, Piotr Sierecki and Maciej Winkler.

November 18:
11:00 a.m. — Isaac Bashevis Singer STORYTIME for Kids
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. — Screening of "Yentl," directed by Barbra Streisand, followed by a Q&A with host Andrzej Krakowski.

November 19:
2:00 p.m. — Isaac Bashevis Singer STORYTIME for Kids
6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. — Screening of "Enemies: A Love Story," directed by Paul Mazursky, followed by a Q&A with host Andrzej Krakowski.
7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. — "The Wall," a one-woman-showby the Jewish Theatre in Warsaw, starring Ewa Dąbrowska, directed by Maciej Wojtyszko and written by Ryszard Marek Groński.
