A Proust Party

On Marcel Proust's 148th birthday, McNally Jackson Books will host a panel and discussion to celebrate this brilliant, enigmatic writer and Jewish mother's son who remains one of our bookstore's true patron saints.

Proust scholars André Aciman (who wrote "Call Me By Your Name," about a Jewish intellectual family, and "Out of Egypt," about his own Jewish family), Marcelle Clements (the novelist and journalist who grew up in Paris as the child of Jewish refugees), Eric Karpeles (who collaborated on “The Mentaculus,” a book of mathematical equations and Hebrew references used as a prop in the Coen Brothers film “A Serious Man”) and Caroline Weber (who wrote "Proust's Duchess," which outlines the Jewish story, among other things, behind Proust's famous character the Duchesse de Guermantes) will each present a selection from Proust's "In Search of Lost Time" that holds special meaning for them before diving into what's new in Proust studies from a broader point of view.

This event is designed for all levels of readers, from those who haven't quite found the motivation to begin to those who have lost a great deal of time over Proust already.
