"Pi"

(Nov. 2 & Dec. 3) — Number theorist and recluse Max Cohen and his mentor Sol Robeson try to make stock predictions with their math expertise, but hit a snag; Lenny Meyer, a chasidic expert in the math of the Torah, provides new ideas and teaches them gematria. Laser-sharp and quick editing, a high-voltage techno soundtrack, and engrossing visuals create a kind of sensory overload that emulates the manic world of Max. Since this 1998 debut feature, director Darren Aronofsky has continued to blow minds with films like "Black Swan" (2010) and "mother!" (2017).
