"Next Stop, Greenwich Village"

(Feb. 10 & 17) — Writer/director Paul Mazursky mined his own past for this warm 1976 comedy/drama set in the Village circa 1953, when it was a bohemian mecca for self-invention. Young, Jewish aspiring actor Larry Lapinski (Lenny Baker) arrives from Brooklyn and his smothering mother Fay (Shelley Winters) and meets potential mate Sarah (Ellen Greene) — and, at a fateful movie casting call run by Mazursky himself, aggressive auditioning actor Clyde (Jeff Goldblum, in his first breakout role). Look for Christopher Walken and uncredited Bill Murray.
