Israeli Neila Service

Want to experience a meaningful Yom Kippur but don't connect to prayer or synagogue? Want to mark the holiday your own way but don't know where to start? Join us for an alternative musical Neila service for the entire family, followed by a communal break fast dinner. The ceremony will take place in Hebrew and include contemporary and traditional Jewish songs and readings, accompanied by vocals and guitar. The Israeli Neila prayer at JCC Harlem was designed to provide an open, communal, and accessible alternative to mark this special day.

The ceremony will be conducted by musician Shimon Smith. Shimon Smith is the Songleader / Cantorial Soloists at The Daniel Centers for Reform Judaism in Tel Aviv, head of music for Tlamim, the IMPJ's young adults, songleader for JAFI Summer camp Shaliach program, and host of "The Best in Israeli Rock" on Jewish Rock Radio. Shimon was the bass vocalist in The VocaPeople, and dubbed "Scar" in the Hebrew version of The Lion King, 2019.
