"The Dybbuk"

(May 26-29) — In one of the greatest films in the Yiddish language, a young bride (Lili Liliana) feels drawn to a student of Kabbalah (Leon Liebgold). When he dies, she’s possessed by his dislocated soul and is taken to an exorcist. Filled with expressionist influences, the film is based on the ultimate Yiddish theater classic by S. Ansky.

Directed by Michal Wasczyński, 1937. DCP restoration.

Screening as part of the series "The Jewish Soul: Classics of Yiddish Cinema" (May 26-July 3).
