Amy Schumer to Star in Her First Broadway Show

Comedian Amy Schumer will make her Broadway debut this November in a new play written by Steve Martin, according to the New York Times.

The show, “Meteor Shower,” is a comedy set in 1993 and takes places at backyard party in Ojai, CA. The show follows the two couples through a night of stargazing and sparring.

Schumer will play Corky, who along with her husband Norm, are the dinner party hosts.

The celebrated comedian and “Trainwreck” star took to Instagram to share her excitement about the upcoming project.

“I got to do a Steve Martin play in college and have loved him ever since,” she wrote in a post. “I just love him and can’t believe I get to be in his play on BROADWAY!!!”

Keegan-Michael Key, Laura Benanti and Alan Tudyk will also star in the show. Jerry Zaks, who was recently nominated for his work in “Hello, Dolly!” is the director.

According to the Times, casting Schumer in “Meteor Shower” was Martin’s original idea. He pitched the project to her at a party at her house, eventually convincing her to read the script.

Martin originally started working on the play in 1993, when the show is set, but got sidetracked and did not complete it for another 20 years.

“It came back to me a couple of years ago,” Martin told the NY Times. “I can’t tell you how excited I am.”

The play originally debuted in New Haven and San Diego. However, it was Schumer’s star power that eventually propelled the project to Broadway.
