Andy Statman and Zev Feldman: Klezmer Pioneers Reunited!

This special program reunites the legendary klezmer duo of Andy Statman (clarinet/mandolin) and Walter Zev Feldman (tsimbl/hammered dulcimer) for the first time in 35 years! The evening will include a performance and multimedia presentation celebrating the duo’s work in the 1970s with legendary klezmer clarinetist Dave Tarras and other important immigrant musicians. These efforts culminated in a pioneering concert series and recording produced with the Balkan Arts Center (later renamed the Center for Traditional Music and Dance — CTMD). Today, Statman and Feldman’s work is recognized as a watershed moment that created momentum for an international revitalization of klezmer and Yiddish culture.

The program will also feature ethnomusicologist Mark Slobin (Wesleyan, emeritus), and Ethel Raim and Pete Rushefsky of CTMD.
