"American Matchmaker"/"Amerikaner Shadkhn"

(Jun. 2-7) — Edgar G. Ulmer’s fourth and final Yiddish film is a 1940 musical comedy about assimilation. A “nice” young man with a weakness for ascots who’s close to his mother can't, for some strange reason, seem to get married (eight broken engagements in a row)... With Leo (“The Yiddish Fred Astaire”) Fuchs and half the comic character actors on the Lower East Side.

DCP restoration. Approx. 85 min

June 5's screening is preceeded by a live performance by Yiddish actor Shane Baker and Steve Sterner.
