Warren Hoffman, author of "The Great White Way: Race and the Broadway Musical," takes you on an audio-visual journey behind some of Broadway’s most beloved shows. From the blackface of "Show Boat" to "Oklahoma!’s" missing Native Americans to the Jewish roots of "West Side Story," Hoffman—a playwright, experienced dramaturge and literary scholar—examines how these musicals engaged with (or in) the racial issues of their time. A Q&A and book signing follow the program.
